“America: Yesterday, Today and Forever” will be the theme of the 2013 4th of July celebration in Alamo.

It’s an observance that has been held in the town for more than 100 years. Grand Marshal’s for the parade this year are Dell and Marva Sullivan. Dell was a long-time science teacher at Pahranagat Valley High School and Marva is the granddaughter of William Thomas Stewart, who was one of the founders of the town of Alamo in 1901.

Activities begin July 3 with motorcycle and quad races at the rodeo arena. Signups will begin at 6 p.m. Contact Amy Huntsman at 775-962-1615.

The annual Firecracker 5K run begins July 4 at 6 a.m. $12 registration fee. Contact Heidi Leavitt at 775-962-8482.

The flag raising takes place at the town monument at 7 a.m., followed by the pancake breakfast in the town park behind the LDS church sponsored by the PVHS FFA Chapter. $5 for adults, $3 child, and $15 for a family.

The annual parade will be at 9 a.m. at the park and goes around the block of the park and the church. For parade entries and/or questions, contact Nicole Burcham 775-239-2298.

Food, crafts, vendors and children’s games will be at the park at 10:30 a.m. $10 for a booth reservation, call JeAnne Canfield 702-239-1218.

Cowboy poetry and music will be held in the LDS Cultural Hall at 11 a.m. The 3-on-3 basketball tournament at the high school gym begins at 11 a.m. Contact Brian Higbee 775-962-1916.

The money spray for the kids happens at 11:30 at the church parking lot. The barbeque dinner will be in the park at 5:30. $5 adults, $3 child, $25 family (parents and children under 18).

At 7 p.m. at the rodeo arena will be a Mutton Busting competition for kids ages 4-10. $5 registration fee. Contact Millie Walch 702-672-9610.

The annual fireworks show is at 9 p.m. at the park. Bring your own chairs and warm blankets.
