At the invitation of Christian Bible Fellowship Church in Alamo, Desert Hills Baptist from Las Vegas brought their drama troupe up for a presentation of their annual summer musical production.

On July, 13, the troupe presented the kids musical “Follow U,” which was about a group of kids in an elementary school.

The play primarily used elementary aged kids, however, director Christine Schroder said their drama troupe really consists of all ages. “We have had as young as a four-year old in previous plays, and our oldest performer was 70.”

There is a definite gospel theme to the production, using handmade stage backdrops by the technical and stage crew, and specially prepared CD music. “We love to get the message of Christ out, and my little ones just love to act.”

Schroder says she grew up in theatre herself, “and I just love doing it. It’s my passion. It’s all volunteer. I like having people enjoy the show. I started with the drama troupe in 2006, took a break while in college, and have been back with them about a year and a half.”

Desert Hills had already given the show twice at their own church in Las Vegas, before coming to Alamo.

Schroder says the troupe usually does a musical play in the summer and one at Christmas time. “We throw all types of music and dances into them, the kids just love it.”

She said coming to Alamo was the first time they have taken any of their productions on the road. “The kids were very excited when we offered it to them. The whole cast came.”

A Christmas program by the same group in Alamo just might be a possibility.
