A woman from Elko died of an apparent massive heart attack just as the Labor Day weekend celebrations were about to begin in Pioche Aug. 30.

County Sheriff Kerry Lee said  66-year old Mary Shipton, one of the vendors for the celebration, along with her husband 69-year old Vern Shipton, were setting up their booth about 4:30 p.m. when she complained of not feeling well, “then walked away a short distance and collapsed.”

Meadow Valley Ambulance and EMS responded, performed CPR and also used the defibrillator at the scene as well as enroute to Grover C. Dils Medical Center in Caliente, but she could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A coroner’s investigation was conducted by the Sheriff’s Department.
