Lincoln County High and Pahranagat Valley High won the state academic championship in their respective divisions. The awards were presented before the stage championship football games last week in Las Vegas.

The Lincoln girls Cross Country team won the award in Division III/IV.

A statement from the NIAA said, “Each season, every year, the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (the 501c3, non-profit governing body of high school athletics in the Silver State) and Ingraham Trophies (the NIAA’s official provider of championship awards) are proud to present a commemorative plaque to the boys and girls teams in each sport – in each division – that achieved the highest team grade point average. The team GPAs are calculated by taking the previous semester GPAs of each individual varsity participant and averaging them together. The NIAA considers the state academic team championships to certainly be equal (if not more so) in importance to the athletic team championships. The NIAA believes our competitors are students first, and then athletes.”
