The Panthers faced Beaver Dam in the first game of the Panther Classic last weekend. They won four straight games before losing to Moapa Valley’s JV in the final.

The Pahranagat Valley High School baseball team’s 2016 season is underway. The team won four of the five games during its annual Panther Classic, losing Saturday’s championship against Moapa Valley’s JV team, 7-3, even though the Panthers beat the Pirates earlier in the day 3-0. Over the weekend, the Parhanagant Valley High school baseball team played 5 games. They won “I think they were just a little tired,” coach Brad Loveday said. “They did well,” he added. “We are young and we have a lot of new kids.”

In the win against Moapa, Taber Maxwell pitched a no hitter.

In the Friday games, the Panthers beat Beaver Dam 13-3 and took care of Eureka 10-2. They next face Mojave in Las Vegas today at 4 p.m. and head to Hawthorn next week for a doubleheader.

“It’s early season,” Loveday said. “Learning and moving and trying to get better.”
