More online visitors are taking a look at county attractions via LincolnCountyNevada.com and social media pages run by the Lincoln Communities Action Team (LCAT).
Ben Rowley said at the group’s June 14 meeting there were 1,001 followers on Facebook, an increase of 97 from May, and 838 on Twitter, 29 more than in May.
In addition, he said the website had nearly 3,000 visitors, a 42 percent increase from May and a 44 percent increase over the same period in 2015.
Most of the visits, 43 percent, were from Las Vegas metro area, 32 percent were from Lincoln County, 12 percent from Los Angeles, seven percent Salt Lake area, three percent from Reno, and one percent each from Mesquite, Moapa and St. George.
Rowley noted the Gravel Grinder, which was promoted not only on Facebook, but also on billboards in Las Vegas and print ads in certain cycling magazines, and an email campaign in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, were specifically credited with the increases.
Similar campaigns will also be used to promote the Lincoln County Fair next month in Panaca, the Pioche Labor Day celebration in September, and the October Park-to-Park Pedal and Century Ride from Kershaw-Ryan State Park.
LCAT is planning a Fall Photo Festival, tentatively planned from Nov. 3-5 at a location yet to be determined. Several well-known local photographers will help coordinate the event, with details to be announced soon.
Discussion was held at the meeting about design ideas for the Hiko billboard, the almost completely blank Scenic U.S. 93 roadway sign at the junction of 93 and SR 375, although no decisions made.
Members of the Nye Communities Coalition, similar to LCAT, attended the meeting and suggested the two groups consider the creation of a combined bicycle event between Nye and Lincoln County to help promote the various small communities in each county. More information on this will be forthcoming in future meetings.
Trudy Faulkner announced that the chair for the 2017 Homecoming/Memorial Day weekend celebration in Caliente will be Kassidy Kreci.
Items discussed at the July 12 LCAT meeting included current ad campaigns, website and social media reports. An additional meeting is set for July 26 in Caliente to further discuss the Hiko billboard, plus a proposed business conference and the November Fall Photo Festival.
