A free Mental Health First Aid Training will be held October 12 and 13 in Caliente.

The training will be held at the Caliente Community United Methodist Church. It begins both days at 8:30 a.m. and goes until 12:30 p.m.

This course helps anyone who wants to learn how to provide initial help to someone who may be experiencing symptoms of mental illness or in crisis. The course gives people tools to help friends, family members, colleagues, or others in their community.

The training uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to offer initial help in a mental health crisis and connect persons to the appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care. The program also teaches the common risk factors and warning signs of specific types of illnesses, like anxiety, depression, substance use, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, and schizophrenia.

More information and a registration form can be found at  http://lcatnv.net/mentalhealth/. Any questions can be directed to Ben Rowley – ben@nvcmedia.com.

The event is being put on by the Lincoln Communities Action Team, in cooperation with RSVP, NyE Communities Coalition and the PACE Coalition.
