Junior Brooklyn Hafen continues to excel at the high jump.

On March 5, the Lincoln County High School track team participated at Centennial High School in Las Vegas. The team’s performance was “great,” according to junior team member Danielle Lister.

Junior Brooklyn Hafen placed first in the high jump event, jumping 5 feet 2 inches and beating her own personal record. Also, fellow junior Cody Dirks placed second in the 1,600 meters and the 3,000 meters.

The 4×100 meters team took second place as well in their event.

With Lacee Pearson and Jacob Zierow as their coaches, the team had a “really great” performance, despite competing against track teams “8 times the size of our team” from bigger schools in Nevada and Utah.

There were also a lot of track members beating their own personal records, including senior thrower Zach Florence, who broke the 100 feet mark in discus and is looking to qualify for state this season.

Dirks said that the team did will and is hopeful the team can take state.

The team will next compete at the Richard Lewis meet on April 21 at Moapa.
