Yes, those are people riding donkeys in the Lincoln County High School gym. The event was put on by the LCHS Student Council.

On Tuesday night, an outrageous sport returned to the Lincoln County High School gym: Donkey Basketball.

Now, you may have a lot of questions, and that’s understandable. One of those questions might be, “What is Donkey Basketball?”

Turns out, it’s exactly what it sounds like.

All the players ride donkeys around the basketball court trying to score points. The only problem is that these donkeys, as most donkeys do, have minds of their own and will choose where they want to roam, usually to the their riders’ chagrin.

The teams of this latest installment were made up of teachers and faculty on one side and parents on the other. The battle was fierce, and between players falling from their mounts, making shots, and falling off some more, the experience was thoroughly entertaining. The score was consistent most of the game, and even when the players were just fighting to stay on their donkeys, they still found time to score.

At halftime, the heroes of the game and their human riders were given a chance to rest as the spectators crowded around the donkeys to take pictures and pet the sweet-hearted animals.

In the end there could only be one winner, and that victor was the red team. The real winners, however, were those entertained by the hilarity of the sport and the kids that will benefit from the funds raised.
