Pahranagat Valley senior catcher Madalyn Taylor reaches for a pitch too far outside. The Panthers play Sandy Valley in Alamo on April 20.

Two Pahranagat Valley pitchers combined for a one-hit shutout as the Lady Panthers blanked Sunrise Mountain 16-0 on Tuesday in Las Vegas.

The game, shortened to four innings, was highlighted by Pahranagat Emily Hansen going 3-for-4 at the plate, getting a walk, and belting a grand slam home run.

Madalyn Taylor, Kaitlyn Davis Ashlyn Wadsworth, and Kaitlin Higbee collected 11 hits for the Panther girls.

Wadsworth and Davis had pitched three one-hit shutouts during the Panther Invitational tournament at the beginning of March.

Alyssa Guevara-Canales had the only hit for the Miners, a single in the second inning.

Pahranagat scored in every inning against Sunrise Mountain, especially the seven-run third inning during which Hansen hit her grand slam, followed shortly by Morgan Harris with a solo home run.

Coach Mike Sparrow said, “Emily’s homer was in the right-center field gap and rolled all the way to the fence for an inside-the-park grand slam. Then Morgan followed soon after with a hit over the left fielder’s head, and with her speed, she rounded the bases and scored fairly easily.”

Davis was the starting pitcher for the Panthers. She allowed no run on one hit, walked none, and struck out one. Wadsworth threw one inning of no-hit relief.

Jaidyn McCown was the losing pitcher for Sunrise Mountain (2-9).

Sparrow said, “I thought we adjusted well to when Sunrise Mountain put in another pitcher late in the game who threw a bit faster than McCown and we played solid defense.”

Taylor, Jessika Brede, and Wadsworth each had two hits for Pahranagat Valley.

It was the Panther’s fifth straight win against Sunrise Mountain since 2014 and second straight shutout. They beat the Miners 18-0 last year.

The girls next play their first doubleheader league games April 20 against Sandy Valley in Alamo and in Tonopah on April 21.

Pahranagat is the only team yet to play at 1A Southern league game.

Indian Springs is 2-0, both Tonopah and Beaver Dam are 2-2, and Sandy Valley is 0-2.

When league play concludes, the four-team 2A Southern Regional tournament is scheduled for May 10-12.
