Caliente Beautification Committee Hosts Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony

The Caliente Beautification Committee held its annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Depot at 7 p.m. last Saturday. Residents take their children to this annual event so they can sit on Santa’s lap, chat and get a candy cane. “Many thanks to Bob Davis and our entertainers for their lovely program,” said Lavette Lee, president of the beautification committee. Meadow Valley Bridge Complete

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the bridge over the Meadow Valley Wash leading to the Caliente Youth Center was held Nov. 17 at 11:45 a.m. Many city officials, city workers, Caliente Youth Center employees, residents and representatives from different organizations involved in the project attended the ceremony and a luncheon afterwards. The new bridge has been in the works since a 2005 flood. It took years of persistent efforts to fund and complete the project. ‘Bundle of Loose-Limbed Energy’ Set to Perform at Opera House

Critically-acclaimed Musician Jalan Crossland will appear Nov. 1 at The Thompson’s Opera House in Pioche at 7 p.m.  Known as an “endemic Wyoming treasure,” according to his website, Crossland “is widely acclaimed by audiences, critics and his musical peers as being a premier acoustic guitarist, banjo player, singer-songwriter and engaging showman.” Crossland was raised and resides in a rural mountain town, population 300.  He writes songs “about drinking, fighting hobos, roughnecks, trailer park fires, oil patch strippers and little neighborhood dogs that bite,” the website stated. City Council Seeking Input from Residents on Block Grant

The first public hearing to discuss possible actions for funding under the next fiscal year’s State Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program and solicit citizen input on possible activities to be included in the application was held at the Oct. 6 Caliente City Council meeting. Grover C. Dils Ladies Auxiliary President Retires After 15 Years

At the August Grover C. Dils meeting, Auxiliary President Jan Spencer announced her retirement after serving 15 years of service.
